“I want to change, but I can’t!”
Have you ever felt this way before? Many people dealing with issues in their life face this obstacle everyday.I’d like to look at this from the perspective of Changing Lanes…….
You are traveling down the highway of life in the fast lane.
Life has worn you down.
You can see there is something better on the other side of the highway. The exit up ahead looks like it could provide a place to break free from the struggles in your life.
You turn on your signal indicating you want to change. Car after car keeps driving past you blocking the path to the exit across the highway. No one seems to notice your signal to change. Frustration has set in and the thought of changing feels out of reach. Your thoughts are telling you that change is not possible. Maybe staying in your lane would be the easiest choice.
Just as you are about to give up hope of changing lanes by yourself, you notice something in your mirror. A car behind you has changed from your lane to the next lane. The car is traveling at a pace to stay just behind you and block traffic. Straining closer to get a better look at the driver, you find a face that you recognize. Jesus has been traveling with you the whole time. Now that you notice He has been traveling with you, He has given you the opportunity to change.
Feeling a sense of joy, you move over into His lane. He then moves over another lane to block traffic. You follow His lead until you finally make to the exit. Now exiting, He takes the lead and you follow Him on the exit and to a new path.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
As long as you believe you can change on our own, you will never experience true change. You are relying on our own strength and missing the opportunity to rest in Jesus’ power. Once we get out of our own way and let Him lead, real change is possible.
